Rolfing — How it works & when to use it

Different Theories on How it Works
It is known that living things work towards maintaining a state of homeostasis, the optimum condition of balanced function. Rolfing® is believed to facilitate that process by helping the individual achieve greater balance on a musculoskeletal level. But according to the Rolf® Institute, Ida Rolf “never offered a completely satisfactory answer” to the question of how Rolfing® actually works. However, some senior faculty members have proposed various theories. To read about these, go to www.rolf.org and under the FAQs see the answer to “How Does Rolfing® Work?”

Conditions it Works Best For
Although little scientific research has currently been done on Rolfing®, many people have undergone Rolfing sessions to improve postural alignment and ease of movement, achieve greater physical balance, and improve physical discomforts arising from injury, trauma, or repeated stress conditions. In addition, some people are interested in the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the work that may help to decrease anxiety and stress, enhance self-awareness and self-acceptance, and lead to a greater level of inner calm and presence.
