Rolfing® practitioners work to integrate both structure and function through Structural Integration and Rolfing® Movement. In Rolfing® Movement Integration, the client develops awareness of their unhealthy movement patterns and learns a means to change them. In Rolfing® Structural Integration, the Rolfer actually works hands-on to facilitate the release of deep-seated muscular patterns. A series of exercises called Rolfing® Rhythms can be used to remind participants of the underlying Rolfing® principles of ease, length, balance and harmony with gravity.
Since Dr. Rolfs death, The Rolf Institute has continued to develop enhancements to her original work. Amongst these are strategies of intervention that are tailored to the individual needs of the client, gentle techniques for those experiencing discomfort, and joint mobilization techniques.
