 | It is difficult to control for the placebo effect, which can be especially strong in these types of studies. |
 | It can be difficult to attribute the mechanism of action for the effects noted: is it mainly stress reduction or are there intervening mechanisms such as enhanced energy flow or other spiritual causes? |
 | There is a learning curve, as a new mental activity needs a period of time for learning in order to be effective. For example, the full effect of meditation cannot be expected on 1st sitting, or even on 2nd, 5th or 10th, etc. There is a gradual conditioning/learning process that needs to be accounted for. |
